Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Saturday 01.04.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Snow and wind will create slabs on top of a weak snowpack. Avalanches will be very easy to trigger. In the areas that receive the most snowfall a few natural avalanches are expected.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 31. March 2023

Mountain weather

Friday 31. March 2023

6 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from southeast, changing to strong gale from the north during the afternoon. -19 °C to -5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 1. April 2023

5 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the north during the evening. -9 °C to -6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
