Avalanche warning for region Voss Thursday 15.02.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

The avalanche danger will increase during snowfall and the wind picks up. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Wind deposited snow from last weekend are covering persistent weak layer. Beware of danger signs like shooting cracks and whumpf-sounds.

Onsdag ligger det 40cm ubunden snø i skogen ved Vossavangen og det ligger generelt mye løs snø i terrenget etter snøvær tirsdag og onsdag med moderat vind. Tidligere har vind opp i liten kuling, hovedsakelig fra sørøst, flyttet snø inn i leheng og dannet fokksnøflak av varierende hardhet. Fokksnøflakene ligger nå under nysnøen mange steder. Vindutsatte steder har mindre snø. Mildvær tidlig i februar fuktet snødekket høyt til fjells.

Kaldt og klart vær forrige uke førte til oppbyggende omdanning i snøoverflaten. Kantkorn er observert mellom skare og fokksnøen både ved Myrdal og Vinje tirsdag. samt ved Vossavangen onsdag. Noen steder har det også dannet seg kantkorn under det øverste skarelaget (dannet 2. feb).

Det finnes fremdeles flere lag med avrundet kantkorn dypere i snødekket som ikke utgjør et skredproblem for øyeblikket.

Et lite skred gikk på veg på Vikafjellet onsdag morgen.

Det kom mye snø natt til onsdag i store deler av regionen. 20mm på nedbørsmåler i Myrkdalen på under 10 timer fra midnatt til onsdag formiddag. Det er meldt mer snø i løpet av onsdag.

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the evening. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 15. February 2024

5 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the evening. Breeze from east, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -14 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Snøbyger og vindøkning på ettermiddagen øker skredfaren. Det er mye løs snø som vinden kan flytte på. Det er lettest å løse ut skred mens været står på. Mest utsatt er lesider der vinden legger igjen snøen. Regn i lavlandet på kvelden.

Enkelte steder er kantkorn mellom skare og fokksnøen godt utviklet. Vær obs på faretegn som drønn og skytende sprekker.
