Avalanche warning for region Voss Wednesday 14.02.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. Storm slabs in the western part of the region may be easy to trigger. Wind deposited snow from last weekend are covering persistent weak layer. Beware of danger signs like shooting cracks and whumpf-sounds.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow above a crust

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 13. February 2024

Mountain weather

Tuesday 13. February 2024

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from southwest. -8 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 14. February 2024

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the evening. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
