Avalanche warning for region Salten Tuesday 16.04.2024

It’s mainly stable conditions and the snow surface is hard. In sun exposed steep slopes can losse snow avalanches release if the snow surface is wet. Keep a safe distance to cornices and glide cracks.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Snøoverflata er påvirket av mildvær sist uke opp til minst 1100 moh. I lavlandet har gjenværende snø blitt våt. Natt til søndag ble det kaldere og overflata frøys til. På de alle høyeste toppene finnes det trolig tørrsnø som er preget av vind.

Det er tidligere blitt observert flere lag med kantkorn i snødekket. Det antas at siste dagers mildvær og regn har nøytralisert disse vedvarende svake lagene.
Men høyt til fjells, hvor nedbøren er kommet som snø er det mulig at de fremdeles er intakt.

Det er observert noen små løssnøskred i nysnøen der sola kom fram mandag.

Observasjoner fra Kvalhornet ved Fauske mandag viser opptil 10 cm nysnø på 900 moh. Sola kommer fram gjennom skydekket innimellom.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredproblemet varierer gjennom døgnet og styres av solinnstråling. Der overflata blir våt, vil det være mulig for en person å løse ut små løssnøskred. I høyfjellet vil snødekket stabiliseres ytterligere med lave temperaturer og lite ny nedbør. Små ustabile fokksnøflak kan ikke utelukkes, men det har kommet lite nysnø etter det ble kaldere.
