Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Sunday 28.05.2023

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
There will be some new snow and strong winds, but conditions are generally stable. Wind slabs might be possible to trigger in a few sheltered formations. If the sun peeks out, it can trigger some avalanches in the fresh snow.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 27. May 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 27. May 2023

4-7 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1600 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the evening. -1 °C to 4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 28. May 2023

6 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l Sunday night. Moderate gale from west, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
