Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Wednesday 15.02.2023

Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. A slab avalanche is easier to trigger in areas with soft or thin wind slabs.

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Siden fredag er det kommet betydelige mengder nedbør, som regn i lavlandet og snø i høyden. I fjellet har det blåst kraftig, utsatt terreng er avblåst, mens en del heng har samlet mye fokksnø.

Observasjoner tyder på at alt kantkorn er smelteomvandlet, men noe kan ha overlevd høyt til fjells over 800 moh.

Det ble observert snøfokk i høyden ved Narvik mandag formiddag.

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from southwest. -3 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 15. February 2023

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from south. -7 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mandag og tirsdag dannet det seg ferske fokksnøflak i høyden. Mildværet er gunstig for stabiliseringen av fokksnøen, men det har lagt seg betydelige mengder fokksnø i noen heng, og skred som løsner i fokksnøen kan bli store.
Der det er lite snø og avblåst er det stabile forhold.
