Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Tuesday 14.02.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Wet natural avalanches possible. The avalanche danger is highest during Tuesday night. In the alpine, it is possible to trigger slab avalanches in lee areas with wind deposited snow. Avoid avalanche release and run out areas.
  • The danger is greatest until Tuesday morning

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 13. February 2023

Mountain weather

Monday 13. February 2023

20 mm precipitation, up to 50 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Gale from west, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 14. February 2023

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from southwest. -3 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
