Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Saturday 13.04.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Avalanches can be triggered in fresh wind slabs, and it will be easiest at the highest peaks. Some wind slabs might be on top of persistent weak layers high in the snowpack, which makes it possible to trigger avalanches remotely.
The avalanches hazard is mainly linked to the snow from Thursday.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Onsdag var det plussgrader og regn opptil 1200 moh medan det vart kaldare og snø med vind frå nordvest over ca. 200 moh torsdag. Snøen er generelt smelteomvandla og har fryst på under ca. 400 moh, medan det høgare er fokksnø av varierande hardheit, og laus snø i meir skjerma terrengformasjonar. Mildare temperaturar utover dagen vil gjere snøen fuktig stadig høgare til fjells.

I påska var det tilhøve for danning av kantkorn høgt i snødekket, og skredaktivitet denne veka kan tyde på at det har skjedd. Det finnast også vedvarande svake lag djupare i snødekket, men desse er ikkje eit problem no då dei er låst under hard snø.

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 13. April 2024

3-5 mm precipitation. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the evening. -3 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Enkelte stadar er det mogleg å løyse ut skred i fersk fokksnø. Lettast vil det vere på dei høgaste toppane og størst kan skreda bli i områda som har fått mest snø torsdag. Fokksnøflak kan ligge over vedvarande svake lag, som gjer at skred kan løysast ut frå avstand.

Skredproblem er i hovudsak knytt til snøen som kom torsdag, sidan snøen under allereie er påverka av mildvêr som har gått opptil ca. 1200 moh. Dei milde temperaturane utover dagen er også gunstig for rask stabilisering av fokksnøen.
