Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Sunday 28.05.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
It's generally favorable conditions, but it may be possible to trigger small avalanches in steep terrain where the snow is very wet.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 27. May 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 27. May 2023

3-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the south during the evening. -6 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 28. May 2023

6-10 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l Sunday night. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the southeast during the evening. -2 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
