Avalanche warning for region Jotunheimen Monday 02.03.2020

Difficult conditions. There is a persistent weak layer buried in the snow pack, especially around the tree line. Be careful in areas with wind deposited snow.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snøoverflata består stort sett av fokksnø av ulik hardheit, men mage stader finst det også mykje laussnø på overflata.

Fredag vert det observert rim på snøoverflata. Observasjonar viser at det finst kantkorn både over og under skarelag i snødekket, i tillegg til kantkorn ved bakken.

Søndag morgon vert det observert 25 cm nysnø ved Gjendesheim

Avalanche risk assessment

Fokksnøen frå helga treng tid til å stabilisere seg. Observasjonar viser at det kan gå store skred i fokksnøen. Låge temperaturar gjer at stabiliseringa går sakte. Det trengst stor tilleggslast for å løyse ut skred i vedvarande svake lag, men viss det går skred på desse laga vert dei store. Kantkornlag har mest truleg størst utbreiing nord i regionen.
