Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Monday 13.03.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
General unstable conditions. Wet avalanches are expected. In the mountains where precipitation falls as snow, avoid new and fresh stormslabs.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 12. March 2023

Mountain weather

Sunday 12. March 2023

4-8 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -17 °C to -10 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 13. March 2023

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from south, changing to fresh breeze from the south. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mildvær kan gi naturlig utløste våte løssnøskred under mildværsgrensen. Over skoggrensen vil det være kraftig vind og snøvær som danner ferske fokksnøflak som kan være lette å løse ut.
