Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Friday 24.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
New snow with wind will create small unstable storm slabs in lee areas. Wet loose avalanches in south and west facing slopes are expected when the sun comes out.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 23. February 2023

I høyfjellet ligger vindpåvirket nysnø i overflaten.

Mountain weather

Thursday 23. February 2023

6-10 mm precipitation. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the west during the afternoon. -12 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 24. February 2023

3 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l Friday night. Strong breeze from north. -12 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
