Avalanche warning for region Voss Wednesday 24.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Locally unstable conditions. A skier or a snow mobile may trigger avalanches in the fresh wind slabs, while persistent weak layers deeper in the snow in general is hard to trigger.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snøoverflata er prega av mildvær til minst til 1000 moh de siste dagene. Høyere til fjells er snøoverflata vindpåvirka, og fokksnø er innblåst i leområder. Topper og rygger er avblåst eller består av skare. Det er lite snø for årstida i regionen. Snøgrense rundt 500 moh.

I høyden kan kantkorn fra kuldeperioden i januar/februar fortsatt være intakt.

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Påfyll av snø og kuling fra sørvest danner fokksnøflak i nordøstvendte leformasjoner.
I bratte heng med fersk fokksnø kan en skikjører løse ut skred.
Vær oppmerksom på at det ble observert kantkorn nær overflata i helga. Om kantkorn er bevart kan det gi lettere bruddforplantning i fokksnøen.
Hvis sola bryter gjennom skydekket kan det gå små (str. 1) løssnøskred fra bratte sørvendte heng.
Høyt til fjells finns det svake lag av kantkorn dypt i snødekket som trolig kan påvirkes i enkelte heng der overliggende flak er tynne.
