Avalanche warning for region Voss Tuesday 31.03.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. Wet avalanches can occur where the snow is wet. Be careful beneath and in the vicinity of cornices.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 30. March 2020

Observatør melder at store skavlar heng over hårnålsvingane i Kvassdalen.

Mountain weather

Monday 30. March 2020

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from northwest. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 31. March 2020

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the west during the afternoon. -7 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Stigande temperatur vil òg auke faren for våte laussnøskred under 1000 moh.
