Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Monday 30.12.2019

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Det har vore observert kantkorn mot bakken i regionen i høgda. Det har òg vore observert kantkoron høgare oppe i snødekket, om tilstaden til desse laga er ikkje kartlagde etter mildvêret den siste tida.

Mountain weather

25 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest. -2 °C to 4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 30. December 2019

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Kraftig vind og stadvis mykje ny nedbør vil gje stor snøtransport til søraustlege leheng over 900 moh. Her vil ein få pålagring og ferske fokksnøflak.
