Avalanche warning for region Salten Tuesday 07.01.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 6. January 2020

Mountain weather

Monday 6. January 2020

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the south during renoon. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 7. January 2020

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to gale from the south during the evening. -4 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
