Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Tuesday 18.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Large naturally released avalanches may occur due to rising temperatures and rain. Use caution in steep terrain with wind slabs in the alpine.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snøoverflaten består av fokksnø med varierende hardhet, i vindutsatt terreng er det avblåst til bakken eller skare. I skjermet terreng kan det finnes løs snø. Det gamle snødekket antas stabilt etter "Gyda" og gjenfrysing, unntatt i de høyestliggende områdene.

Det er lørdag observert kantkornlag under oppbygging over skaren fra Gyda.

Mandag morgen 25 cm nysnø på Bjorli, som ligger tett på grensen til regionen.

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the evening. Strong gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during renoon. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 18. January 2022

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mildvær og regn svekker stabiliteten i snødekket og gir fare for naturlig utløste våte flakskred under mildværsgrensa. Enkelte skred kan bli store (str 3).

Nysnø og vind fører til flakdannelse i nordøstvendte vendte leheng i over nysnøgrensa. I enkelte utsatte heng kan skred bli store (str 3). Stigende nysnøgrense utover dagen.
