Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Sunday 28.02.2021

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Published:
Expect wet avalanches due to rain and high temperatures. There are well-defined persistent weak layers buried in the snowpack that can cause large avalanches. Keep good distance to avalanche terrain and run out zones for wet avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 27. February 2021

Over ca 500 moh ligger nysnøen ujevnt fordelt i terrenget.

Mountain weather

Saturday 27. February 2021

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the evening. -9 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 28. February 2021

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to gale from the west during the afternoon. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
