Avalanche warning for region Heiane Friday 28.01.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Increasing avalanche dager during the day. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there. Turning wind direction will cause avalanche problems in new directions.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 27. January 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 27. January 2022

30 mm precipitation, up to 50 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l Thursday night. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to gale from the northwest during renoon. -5 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 28. January 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
