Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Friday 24.01.2020

Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Det er stor variasjon i snødekket i regionen.
Det gamle snødekket er stabilt med mye smelteomvandlet snø og skarelag etter perioder med mye vind og nedbør både som regn og snø. Snøoverflaten består av fokksnø med varierende hardhet over 900 moh. Lavere ned er snøen smelteomvandlet og fuktig/våt.
Det er skiføre fra 600-700 moh i indre del, høyere i ytre del.

20 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west. -7 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Synkende snøgrense med ny snø og vind vil igjen gi ferske, ustabile flakdannelser i leheng mot Ø og terreng som samler snø.
I høyden vil noen heng etter hvert bygge opp betydelige snømengder og skred vil kunne bli store. Heng mot øst som har store henteområder for snø er mest utsatt. I utsatte heng kan det også løsne skred naturlig.

Vær også oppmerksom på at skavler kan være store og ustabile flere steder.
