Avalanche warning for region Voss Saturday 13.03.2021

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 12. March 2021

Mountain weather

Friday 12. March 2021

16 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 13. March 2021

1-3 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the southeast Saturday night. -9 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
