Avalanche warning for region Voss Sunday 29.12.2019

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Temperature increase and extreme amounts of rain gives high avalanche danger. Avoid avalanche terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snøoverflaten er hard og bærende etter mildværet høyt til fjells før sist helg. Stedvis nysnø oppå. Det er generelt mindre snø enn normalt i regionen og lite snø under 700 moh.

Det finst vedvarende svake lag av kantkorn ved bakken.

Fredag er det observert overflaterim på mykt underlag.

Avalanche risk assessment

Stigende temperatur utover dagen der mildværet vil nå fjelltopphøyde. I kombinasjon med tildels mye nedbør som regn det resultere i naturlig utløste store våte skred. Mest utsatt er de deler i regionen der det kommer mest nedbør. Der det finnes kantkornlag i snødekket kan disse påvirkes og gi store skred.
