Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Sunday 14.04.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Snow showers and strong wind from the north-west will give drifting snow at altitude. It can be easy to trigger medium-sized avalanches in the new snow. In lower areas it can be easy to trigger small, wet avalanches in steep terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 13. April 2024

Mountain weather

Saturday 13. April 2024

2-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1300 m a.s.l Saturday night. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the evening. -4 °C to 3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 14. April 2024

10 mm precipitation, up to 22 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l Sunday night. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -9 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
