Avalanche warning for region Svartisen Saturday 18.05.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wet avalanches are expected in areas with significant amounts of precipitation. Wet, loose snow avalanches and glide avalanches are possible. Avoid areas below glide cracks.

Avalanche problems

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 17. May 2024

Den siste tiden har det vært plussgrader til fjelltopphøyde, fravær av nattefrost og perioder med en del nedbør som regn.

Snødekket er i all hovedsak smelteomvandlet, grovkornet snø i overflaten.

Mountain weather

Friday 17. May 2024

No precipitation. Breeze from southwest. 0 °C to 10 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 18. May 2024

14 mm precipitation, up to 24 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southwest. -1 °C to 8 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

I områder som får mest nedbør kan det løsne våte skred, enten glideskred eller løssnøskred.

Unngå ferdsel under glidesprekker.

Skavler svekkes i mildværet og bør beundres på avstand.
