Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Friday 05.04.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be cautious in steep terrain with wind slabs that could be triggered. Generally expect a hard and stable snow pack. The snow surface is generally icy below 1000 masl, and the risk of slipping is high.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 4. April 2024

Lite snø tilgjengelig for transport.

Mountain weather

Thursday 4. April 2024

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -21 °C to -9 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 5. April 2024

2-5 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the evening. -14 °C to -8 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
