Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Thursday 04.04.2024

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow in the alpine. Wind slabs can take time to stabilize in cold temperatures. In lower terrain with hard melt-freeze crust, conditions are stable.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 3. April 2024

Mountain weather

Wednesday 3. April 2024

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from east, changing to breeze from the north during the afternoon. -19 °C to -10 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 4. April 2024

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -21 °C to -9 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
