Avalanche warning for region Heiane Thursday 29.02.2024

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid avalanche release and run out areas. Wet natural avalanches possible. The avalanche danger stays at the same level as long as the rain continues.
  • The danger is greatest from Thursday before noon

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 28. February 2024

Mountain weather

Wednesday 28. February 2024

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from southwest. -3 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 29. February 2024

25 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from south. -1 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
