Avalanche warning for region Heiane Friday 06.01.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The wind is picking up and more snow is expected. Naturally released avalanches are likely above the tree line.
  • The danger is greatest from Friday morning

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 5. January 2023

Skredene gikk i fersk fokksnø.

Torsdag morgen var det på Blåsjø i Bykle (1105 moh) -7 °C og frisk bris fra sørørst.

Mountain weather

Thursday 5. January 2023

2-4 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from east, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -11 °C to -6 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 6. January 2023

35 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the evening. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the south during the afternoon. -8 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nytt, stort snøfall og vind opp i liten storm gir økning i skredfaren. Faren øker om morgenen, og størst fare vil det være i Agder og i heng som vender mot nordvest og vest. Skred kan løsne av seg selv. Regn i lavlandet gjør at snøskredfaren blir størst fra løsneområder over tregrensa.
