Avalanche warning for region Heiane Thursday 13.01.2022

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Published:
Rising temperatures and rain will give risk of natural wet slab avalanches. Keep good distance to avalanche terrain and run out zones for wet avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 12. January 2022

Mountain weather

Wednesday 12. January 2022

20 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Moderate gale from west, changing to strong gale from the west during the afternoon. -2 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 13. January 2022

45 mm precipitation, up to 75 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Strong gale from west, changing to gale from the west during renoon. 0 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
