Avalanche warning for region Hallingdal Thursday 11.04.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
The danger will rise in areas where the new snow becomes wet and soft. Be aware in steep lee areas in higher elevations, small dry wind slabs are possible to release. Be careful close to and in terrain traps.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 10. April 2024

Onsdag fortel observatør om mildversgrense på omlag 1300 moh. Dette fuktar snødekket.

Observasjonar tyder på at vedvarande svake lag frå tidlegare i vinter ikkje utgjer noko skredproblem no. Krystallane byrjar å bli avrunda. Kantkorn og begerkrystallar ved bakken er inntakte men ligg under tjukke og bærande lag.

Mountain weather

Wednesday 10. April 2024

2-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l Wednesday night. Breeze from south, changing to moderate gale from the west during renoon. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 11. April 2024

7 mm precipitation, up to 16 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1600 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to moderate gale from the west during renoon. -4 °C to 4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
