Avalanche warning for region Tromsø Saturday 03.04.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. Be carefull in lee areas with fresh wind slabs. Small avalanches can get triggered if the sun comes out or from rain.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 2. April 2021

Mountain weather

Friday 2. April 2021

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west. -5 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 3. April 2021

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest. -6 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
