Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Monday 22.03.2021

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Conditions are challenging. Be sure you have enough knowledge and experience before travelling in steep terrain. Be extra careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow. There are persistent weak layers at higher elevations.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 21. March 2021

Over 1200 moh. kan svake lag djupt i snødekket framleis vere eit problem i nokre heng.

Nokre naturleg utløyste laussnøskred vart observert i Øksendalen fredag.

Mountain weather

Sunday 21. March 2021

8 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -11 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 22. March 2021

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the afternoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
