Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Tuesday 21.01.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Heavy snow showers and strong winds from W-NW will form unstable wind slabs in the alpine. Naturally released avalanches are possible. Below treeline, the risk of wet avalanches will slowly decrease during the day.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Kraftig vind gjennom helgen og mandag har fordelt snøen ujevnt i fjellet. Generelt ligger det mest snø i nordvestvendt til østvendt terreng. Vinden har dannet harde flak av fokksnø, men i skjermede formasjoner kan det ligge ett og annet mykere flak.

Fokksnøen fra helgen har lagt seg over et lag av nedføyket nysnø. Tidligere mildvær har ført til at det gamle snødekket er gjennomfuktet og generelt stabilt opp til ca 800 moh.

Det er observert et skuterutløst skred på Sollifjellet i helgen og en hund klarte å løse ut et lite skred på Storlifjellet i Sørreisa søndag.

20 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the west during the evening. -4 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 21. January 2020

15 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the evening. -6 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Snøbyger og vind vil føre til pålagring av fokksnø i leområder over skoggrensen. Det vil være lett for skiløpere å løse ut skred i den ferske fokksnøen og skredene kan bli store.
