Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Sunday 28.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but be careful in steep terrain, especially where wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

New snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 27. March 2021

MiIdvêr fredag fukta snøoverflata opp mot 1000 moh. Over mildvêrsgrensa blåste nysnøen inn i nordvendte leformasjonar. I lavlandet er snøen våt. Under nysnøen ligger skare av varierande tjukkleik, og mange stadar ligg skaren i overflata. Det er lite snø for årstida i regionen, og lite skiføre under 3-500 moh.

Vedvarande svakt lag danna i kuldeperioda i januar/februar kan framleis vere eit problem nokre stader over 1300 moh.

Mountain weather

Saturday 27. March 2021

3-7 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from south, changing to breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 28. March 2021

2-4 mm precipitation. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
