Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Sunday 21.03.2021

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
It is easy to trigger fresh wind slabs in sheltered terrain. These will be most sensitive at high elevation where the snow is colder and dryer.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 20. March 2021

Vedvarande svake lag frå kuldeperioda i januar/februar kan framleis vere eit problem nokre stadar over ca 1200 moh.

Mountain weather

Saturday 20. March 2021

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the evening. -4 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 21. March 2021

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
