Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Wednesday 15.01.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Conditions are challenging. Wind and fresh snow may give instable conditions. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there. Especially avoid convex terrain.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Kraftig vind fra sørlig retning og mye nedbør den siste tiden har ført til betydelige mengder vindtransportert snø i Ø og NØ vendte leområder.

Rygger og utsatt terreng er blåst ned til gammelt snødekke. Gammelt snødekke består av smelteformer.

Wednesday 15. January 2020

30 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from south, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during renoon. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Kraftig vind fra S og SV og mye nedbør gir skredproblem med fokksnøflak i leområder.

Fare for store naturlig utløste flakskred. Under mildværsgrensa kan det gå naturlig utløste våte snøskred.

Unngå ferdsel i leformasjoner hvor det legger seg opp ferske fokksnøflak, mest utsatt er leområder NV til NØ.
