Avalanche warning for region Voss Tuesday 11.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The danger increases because of considerable amount of snow and high wind speed at high altitudes. Avalanches may release naturally. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 10. February 2020

Mountain weather

Monday 10. February 2020

25 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 11. February 2020

35 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the evening. -6 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Trass i lite snø i låglandet, vil nytt snøfall i fjellet, kaldare vêr og liten kuling fornye skredproblemet med fersk fokksnø i leheng. Snøgrensa kryp ned mot 400 moh. Eldre fokksnø vil stabilisere seg raskt pga. gunstig temperatur, men i høgda er samla mengde fersk vindpåverka snø såpass stor at skred kan gå naturleg.
