Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Monday 12.03.2018

Be aware that there can be pockets with persistent weak layers beneath wind deposited snow, especially in Sunndal and Oppdal mountains. Be careful close to ridges and convex terrain, especially in and close to terrain traps.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Snødekket ber generelt preg av varierande grad av vind frå SØ-Ø. Det har danna seg fokksnøflak med ulik hardheit, og skilnadane kan vere store på korte avstandar. I Sunndalsfjella og Oppdal er snødekket komplekst, med fleire vedvarande svake lag med god bortforplantningsevne under fokksnøflaka.

Kaldt veir har ført til danning av overflaterim og kantkorn i snødekket, og noko av dette ligg no som nedføyka svake lag høgt i snødekket.

Det gamle snødekket reknast som stabilt, sjølv om det finnast godt utvikla kantkornlag. Desse ligg under svært harde lag og vil vere vanskeleg å påverke.

Det er laurdag observert fleire tørre laussnøskred nær Rolegbotn.

Avalanche risk assessment

Fokksnøflak ligg stadvis på svake lag av rim og kantkorn med brotforplatning, særleg i Sunndals- og Oppdalsfjella. Utbreiinga og mektigheita til flaka er begrensa, og dette gjer at faregraden ikkje blir vurdert som høgare. Det krever likevel god kunnskap for å ferdast trygt i skredterreng.
