Avalanche warning for region Svartisen Friday 03.05.2019

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Favourable conditions. Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. distance to areas with glide-cracks and be aware of weak cornices.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Glide avalanches

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 2. May 2019

Mountain weather

Thursday 2. May 2019

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from northeast. -10 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 3. May 2019

2-4 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from northeast, changing to breeze from the north during the afternoon. -14 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
