Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Sunday 04.04.2021

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Strong winds and more precipitation are expected. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. A slab avalanche is possible to release where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft. Weak layers of faceted snow exists at high altitudes.

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

I indre og høgareliggande strøk ligg det nysnø i overflata. Tidlegare i veka vart snødekket fukta av regn og stigande temperatur opp til 1200 moh. Høgare oppe finst fokksnøflak i nordvendte leformasjonar. Elles er overflata prega av skare og avblåste ryggar.

Det er framleis lite snø for årstida i regionen og mange stader begrensa skiføre under skoggrensa.

Kantkornlag djupt i snødekket frå kuldeperioden i februar kan framleis vere eit problem nokre stadar høgt til fjells over 1200 moh.

Kantkorn ser også ut til utvikle seg nær snøoverflata i fleire høgdenivå som følgje av temperatursvingingar gjennom døgnet.


Laurdag morgon var det på Reinsfjellet (990 moh) i Gjemnes -5 °C og liten kuling frå vest.

2-5 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from west. -9 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 4. April 2021

15 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -13 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nysnø og stiv kuling frå vest og nordvest vil danne nye fokksnøflak i leformasjonar. Det vil truleg vere lett å løyse ut middels store skred i mange leheng med fersk innblåst snø, særleg der ferske flak er tynne og mjuke.

Høgt til fjells kan det i enkelte heng framleis finnast svakt lag av kantkorn djupt i snødekket. Skred som lausnar på slik lag kan bli store.
