Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Saturday 09.05.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh storm slabs in the alpine. Wet avalanches can occur in sun exposed slopes where the snow gets wet. Be careful beneath and in the vicinity of cornices.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 8. May 2020

Over dette finnes fortsatt lagdelt snø.

Mountain weather

Friday 8. May 2020

8 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from southwest. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 9. May 2020

6-10 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from southwest. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Unngå likevel områder under glidesprekker.
