Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Sunday 29.03.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 28. March 2020

Mountain weather

Saturday 28. March 2020

8 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest Saturday night. -12 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 29. March 2020

15 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from northwest. -12 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Pågåande sterk vind frå nordvest og mykje ny nedbør vil gje stor snøtransport til søraustlege leområder. Her vil ein få auka pålagring og ferske fokksnøflak. Eldre flak kan stadvis ligge på glatt skare å vere lette å løyse ut.

Skredproblemet er størst i austleg del av regionen som får mest nedbør, samt i høgda der snøen kan ligge på glatt skare.
