Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Tuesday 29.12.2020

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Some new snow in small bowls and gullies. Risk of small avalanches here. In other terrain features, there is less or no snow

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Poor bonding between crust and overlying snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 28. December 2020

Mountain weather

Monday 28. December 2020

Little to no precipitation. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 29. December 2020

Little to no precipitation. Strong breeze from southeast. -10 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Noe vind, men lite løssnø å flytte på gjør at skredfaren forblir liten i regionen. Milde temperaturer gjør at fokksnøen gradvis stabiliseres.
