Avalanche warning for region Heiane Wednesday 10.04.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
The general impression is a stable snowpack, with a few exeptions. Be careful in steep slopes with soft wet snow and in areas with wind slabs at higher elevations.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 9. April 2024

Mountain weather

Tuesday 9. April 2024

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. 0 °C to 4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 10. April 2024

16 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l Wednesday night. Breeze from south, changing to moderate gale from the west during renoon. -3 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
