Avalanche warning for region Heiane Monday 28.12.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Demanding conditions, avoid areas with fresh wind deposited snow. It is also possible to trigger a persistant weak layer in the old snow in bowls and gullies, in all alpine expositions.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snøoverflaten er preget av mye nedbør i helga. Over mildværsgrensa, ca 800 moh ligger det store mengder nysnø, mest i heng mot nordvest. Lavere i terrenget er snødekket svært vått etter kraftig regn søndag. Det gamle snødekket er generelt smelteomdannet i alle høydenivåer. Vindutsatte formasjoner er avblåst eller består av skare.

Søndag er det uvær i fjellet. Ved Åseral ca 40 cm nysnø over 800 moh. Lengre vest er snøgrensa noe høyere.

35 mm precipitation, up to 70 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the evening. -3 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 28. December 2020

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southeast. -5 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nysnø og vind gjør at det fortsatt er mulig å løse ut store skred i de høyeste fjellområdene som ikke ble påvirket av mildvær søndag. Lavere temperaturer gir den våte snøen tid til å stabilisere seg og våte skred blir mindre sannsynlig. Husk at i fjellet kan siste dagers nysnøflak ligge på ustabile lag av rim eller kantkorn.
