Avalanche warning for region Vest-Telemark Sunday 18.02.2018

Use great caution in areas with fresh windloaded snow. Persistant weak layers are present in the snow pack. Avalanches are triggered most easily where the snow pack is thin, typically close to ridges and on convex formations.

Over skoggrensa varierer det fra forholdsvis løs nysnø til fokksnø med varierende overflate og hardhet. Vindutsatte terrengformasjoner er mange plasser avblåst. Etter uværet torsdag var det stedvis myke flak også i skogen.

Snødekket er sammensatt med flere vedvarende svake lag. Det er observert både nedsnødd rim og kantkorn over skarelag. Det varierer hvor mye som skal til for å påvirke disse lagene på grunn av stor variasjon i mengde og fasthet på overliggende snø.

Det var kraftig snøfokk i høyfjellet torsdag, og vind av storm styrke. Fersk vindtransportert snø. Det meldes fredag om at fokksnø har begynt å stabilisere seg. På Haukeli ble det rapportert om 15 cm nysnø fredag.

Avalanche risk assessment

Fokksnøen vil gradvis stabiliseres, men det vil fortsatt ta litt tid. I noen heng kan fokksnøflakene fortsatt være ustabile, og skred som løsner kan bli middels store (str 3). Stedvis har vinden dannet flak også under skoggrensa. Vedvarende svake lag kan påvirkes der snødekket er tynt eller mykt.
