Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Friday 10.05.2024

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but be careful in steep lee formations at high elevations where wind slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is possible to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

New snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 9. May 2024

Mountain weather

Thursday 9. May 2024

10-14 mm precipitation. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the evening. -2 °C to 3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 10. May 2024

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the evening. -4 °C to 2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
