Consequence

Some landslides are expected. A few large events may occur. Exposed railways and roads may be closed. Debris avalanches/shallow slides: Soil slides and rapid movement of saturated soil in steep terrain. Debris floods: A "flood" of water, soil and rocks in steep creeks. Surface runoff in steep terrain can cause streams to change regular flow patterns. Slush slides: A flow of waterlogged snow. These landslides can start in relatively flat terrain and seek towards streams and steep slopes.

Advice

Stay updated on the latest weather developement and hydrological situation. Follow the weather forecast and radar at yr.no, and updates on varsom.no. Keep away from steep slopes, as well as streams and rivers with high discharge. Cleaning of drainage paths and culverts are recommended.

Description

The amount of water in the soil is significant. Steep slopes, as well as streams and river with high discharge are particularly exposed. Risk of slush flows is especially high in areas with more than 30-50 cm snow. The snow may in some places be fully water-saturated. Areas with fresh snow are particularly exposed, since new snow may be saturated with water quickly. Slush flows are triggered even in gentle slopes, where water accumulates. Slush flows follow terrain depressions and may develop into debris flows.
