Avalanche warning for region Voss Thursday 13.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Less precipitation and calm wind reduces the snow drift compared to the previous days. The avalanche problem is most obvious where fresh wind slabs are present.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 12. February 2020

Mountain weather

Wednesday 12. February 2020

8 mm precipitation, up to 17 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the evening. -7 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 13. February 2020

3 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from southwest. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
