Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Monday 24.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Unstable wind slabs may cover a slippery crust in lee areas. Avalaches can be triggered by a single skier. Avoid lee areas where you find wind slabs.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 24. February 2020

Mountain weather

Sunday 23. February 2020

20 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west. -10 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 24. February 2020

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west, changing to breeze from the east during the evening. -12 °C to -7 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

OPPDATERT 24.02.2020 Faregraden oppjustert til FG3 grunna meir nedbør enn forventa.

Kraftig vind frå vest og litt ny nedbør vil gje snøtransport inn i austlege leområder. Her vil ein få auka pålagring og ferske fokksnøflak.
